My Personal Asthma Action Plan
An asthma action plan is a set of written instructions that reminds you what medicines you need to take, when you should take them and when you should change them.
It's based on the traffic light system. GREEN means your asthma is under control and you're not experiencing symptoms. YELLOW cautions that your asthma is getting out of control, you're using your reliever inhaler more and you need a change of medicine. RED is an emergency - your reliever inhaler doesn't help and you need to get to the hospital.
Your colour zone can depend on "peak flow meter" readings. A peak flow meter is a plastic tube that measures how fast you can push the air out of your lungs. The lower the reading, the more your lungs are congested and blocked.
