Legislation passes to ban smoking in vehicles

The Ontario Lung Association (OLA) applauds the Ontario government for making vehicles smoke-free for children. The law, which bans smoking in cars when children under 16 years of age are passengers, came into effect January 21, 2009 on Weedless Wednesday during National Non-Smoking Week.

There is no safe way to smoke in a car with children. Children are especially vulnerable to the poisons in second-hand smoke, and if regularly exposed to it, are more likely to develop serious illnesses such as asthma, suffer lung damage and experience breathing problems later in life.
