Can an Apple a Day Keep Asthma Away?

A study published in the July 2007 edition of the journal CHEST shows that teens who eat more fruits, vegetables and foods containing omega-3 fatty acids, have less asthma symptoms and a better lung function. Omega-3 fatty acids can be found in foods such as fatty fish (eg. salmon and tuna), walnut, and flaxseed and canola oils.

It is not known whether it is the bad food that causes the symptoms, or the good food that prevents the symptoms. Either way, you can’t go wrong with a healthy diet and it may actually help your asthma and improve your lung function. This can mean reduced symptoms that can be annoying or keep you up at night. And a better lung function can make it easier to exercise and play sports at a higher level.
